Rani Mukherjee is an actress who can be credited as the queen of bollywood, not only because of her first name which means ‘the Queen’ in Hindi and Bengali but also due to the kind of image that she had developed during all these years in the Indian film industry.

Her first Hindi movie was ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’ in 1996 and it was a big flop. Everybody considered her as a goner with her first movie crash landed, but she wasn’t ready to give it up and she was right, success wasn’t too far away. Two years later in 1998 she signed an Aamir Khan movie called ‘Ghulam’ which was a big hit of that year and her role in the movie as Alisha received much praise. But Rani’s career was about to take a hard twist, a huge international hit was waiting for her in the form of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hain’ in the same year. With the huge success of the movie her star value skyrocketed and she was right there in the line of main stream actresses of bollywood. Once she got the start she never looked back, with her trademark husky voice, beautiful eyes and of course the talent she has become one of the most popular bollywood actresses of all time. Since her start in 1996, Rani has appeared in nearly 40 films.

Rani was born in March 21, 1978 in West Bengal, India. She is coming from a movie oriented family, her father Ram Mukherjee is a retired director and her mother is a former playback singer, her maternal aunt Debashree Roy was a popular Bengali actress and her cousin Kajol is a bollywood superstar. And another cousin Sharbani Mukherjee also works in movies. Though this movie oriented family background allowed her easy entrance bollywood, she never hesitated to give her hundred percent efforts to each and every project she signed in. her hardworking and trusty nature made her the favorite of many directors and co stars.

She had her high school education at Cooper High School in Juhu. There she used to participate in stage shows and dramas. At the age of 14 she did a cameo role in her father’s Bengali movie called ‘Biyar Phool’. But she never considered acting seriously enough, back then to hinder the studies and she completed high school. After leaving the high, she enrolled in Mithibai College in Mumbai for higher studies. During this period she received several movie offers, one of them was from Salim Akhtar, a family friend for a project named ‘Aa gale lag ja’. But she turned the offer down because her father was against it and Urmila Matondkar played that role instead.

After her 1998 hit ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, she continuously produced mediocre films which kind of affected her star value. In year 2000 she had a hit movie called ‘Badal’ opposite to Boby Deol and it was the highest grossing film of that year and this was a relief for her after a long period of slump. But even the success of Badal did not help to alleviate the hardness of dark clouds of slack which covered her career during the start of the new millenium.

But year 2002 was all too shiny for her as her movie ‘Saathiya’ was a huge hit, it actually climbed up to the list of top five grossing movies of that year. After the success of Saathiya, she signed several movies and most of them performed well both in the box office and in the award functions. In 2003, her new look in Chalte Chalte opposite Shah Rukh Khan was much appreciated. And another movie Veer-zaara was also a hit. After this she had teo successful movies called ‘Yuva’ and ‘Hum Tum’.

In 2005 she did ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘The rising’ and ‘black’, all of these were high profile movies and the way she managed these demanding scripts brought her much praise and the commercial success of these movies lifted her star value much higher. She continued this success in 2006 with hit movie ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ directed by Karan Johar. But in the same year her much hyped movie ‘Baabul’ disappointed all with a wimpy performance at the box office.

Her personal life is full of activities, but she is someone who always loved to stay away from controversies and she appears in the news only for appearances at movie premieres, special events, film festivals, award ceremonies, film promotion-related proceedings, or charity work. She is very close to her niece, Mayesha whom she lovingly calls 'Mishti' (which means "sweet" in Bengali). Recently when asked about her idol by a British news paper she mentioned Adolf Hitler and this was enough for Gossip columnists and tabloids to shape a new controversy, but later she denied ever mentioning Hitler’s name.

Her most anticipated release coming up this year is ‘Ta Ra Ram Pum’ with Saif Ali Khan. And her other movie to release in 2007 is ‘Laga chunari mein daag’ with Abhishek Bachan.

Minissha Lamba has art in her blood

Minissha Lamba scorched the screens with her dare-bare act in ‘Kidnap’ and immediately after that she gave some hot clicks for Maxim. But little do her fans know that Minissha’s mother is an avid painter and has been into painting for over 2 years now. Minissha has some 25 paintings of her mother adorning her house. These paintings range from beautiful sceneries to psychedelics. Minissha adores these paintings so much that she recently turned down a lucrative offer made by a gentleman to buy one of these paintings.


Minissha reveals, “Our entire house is packed with her work. A lot of my friends have asked her to hold an exhibition, but she doesn’t take them seriously. Recently, a man landed up at our doorstep expressing interest in one of mom’s painting titled Glorious Elements. Later, he revealed that he had seen the painting on a friend’s camera phone and he got the address from him and wanted to buy the painting.”

After this incident, Minissha has now advised her mother to hold an exhibition. “I think she needs to showcase her work. We are working on the formalities and plan to hold the exhibition sometime soon. I like the fact that people across all age groups love her work.”

Mugdha Godse met with a car accident

Mugdha Godse took everyone by surprise with her performance in ‘Fashion’. Now, the actress is busy with the shoot of ‘Jail’.

Mugdha met with a tragic car accident on Tuesday afternoon while she was going to Pune to visit her parents. Her car, a black Skoda, skidded off the Expressway and was severely damaged. Mugdha was admitted to a hospital in Pune. She and her driver are fine now.

“I was to fly to Goa for to shoot for Jail and wanted to visit my parents before that,” she said adding, “”The doctor has advised me complete bed-rest for the next few days.”

Lara Dutta’s bikini look in ‘Blue’

Actress Lara Dutta was last seen in ‘Billu Barber’ in a de-glam avatar. She is now set to add the oomph factor in the forthcoming ‘Blue’ with her bikini avatar. Lara has worked very hard with strict diet and training regime to get the lean look that she flaunts in a bikini in the film. She has also learnt swimming and scuba diving for the film. ‘Blue’ is apparently Bollywood’s first underwater film and perhaps the most expensive one too. Film’s director Anthony D’Souza has used latest techniques to give it an international look. The music of the film is given by none other than music maestro AR Rahman. Shot in Bahamas, the movie also stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan, Katrina Kaif and Rahul Dev who will be seen swimming, diving and escaping predatory sharks.

Akshay’s character is called Aarav which is his son’s name in real life. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a fisherman, who also happens to be Akshay’s friend.

First Look of ‘Kurbaan’: Too hot to handle….

They appeared together in ‘Omkara’ and ‘Tashan’, but this time the Saifeena couple has created stirs even before their flick ‘Kurbaan’ hits the screen. This Rensil D’Silva’s directed movie set for release on November 27 is based on terrorism. Saif Ali Khan and Om Puri play the roles of terrorists and Bebo will play Saif’s love interest.

The film is more in news because of the hot love making scene between Saif and Kareena. Even the first look of the film unveiled by Dharma Productions shows the couple with a bare back scene. In a recent interview Kareena stated that the movie was very special to her and the script required the scene. So, she had no hesitation shooting it.

The Bong beauties of Bollywood, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, celebrated Durga Puja at Balkanji Bari in Santa Cruz West on Thursday. The Puja was organized by the North Bombay Sarbhajanin Durga Puja Charitable Trust and the set was designed by Amit Pal and was graced by a 13-feet tall Durga idol.

The celebrations also included the veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee who said, “This isn’t just a Mukherjee’s puja for celebrities. It’s for the working class. We do our utmost to bring all communities together. I request the new generation to be humble and inclusive of all.”

Debu Mukherjee, secretary of the trust added, “This puja is a gharelu (domestic) puja. Kajol and Rani grew up here. So we don’t think they are celebrities. It’s like a house party for them.”

He adds, “I’m not one of those guys for surprise parties. I feel awkward. I have no idea what Deepika has planned for me. I haven’t seen her for a few days because I have been in Bhopal and she was in Mumbai. However, I hope it isn’t too big a surprise because even she knows how reserved I am.”

Of course, he does not forget to mention his forthcoming release and says, “The best gift I can ask for this year is that everyone goes to see my film. I don’t know how to hardsell myself or my film but I can surely request people to see it.”

This hidden side of Katrina was revealed on the sets of Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani’ where during a shoot in Goa, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif had to get off from a jet ski onto a ladder hanging from a 200 ft overhead bridge. Where this Barbie Doll of tinsel town completed her stunt at an amazing speed, Ranbir was struggling with the same. In fact, Ranbir was so amazed and surprised by Katrina’s ability to do the stunt that he nicknamed her as ‘Rambo ki sister Sambo’. “Katrina was so good in the action scenes that I actually named her ‘Rambo ki sister Sambo,” said Ranbir.

Dia Mirza or Diya Mirza Handrich, nicknamed Dee, (born December 9, 1981) is a former Indian model and actress who appears in Bollywood films. She was Miss Asia Pacific for the year 2000 and was also second runner up in the Femina Miss India 2000 beauty pageant.

Dia Mirza was born in Hyderabad, India, she is of Bengali/German origin. Her father, Frank Handrich, was a German interior designer from Munich and her mother is Deepa, a Bengali Indian. They separated when she was six years old. Her father died when she was nine and her mother remarried Ahmed Mirza who died in 2004. She retained a Muslim surname (Mirza) from her stepfather, though she herself is a Hindu. Later she adopted the last name of her birth-father and became Dia Mirza Handrich.

She stated that she suffered from "low self-esteem" and severe depression as a child. When living in Khairatabad, Hyderabad, she attended Vidyaranya High School For Boys And Girls, a school based on the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti, and later Nasr School, in Kushnuma.

Currently, she lives in Bandra, Mumbai. To brush up on acting before Shootout at Lokhandwala, she took a one week course of Film at New York University.

She made her cinematic debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein opposite R. Madhavan. The film was not a box office success. A series of unsuccessful films followed, among them Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Deewaanapan.

In 2005, Mirza appeared in Parineeta, a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. She also played in the music video Kajara Mohabbat Wala alongside Sonu Nigam from the album Kajara Nite. The album contained multiple remixes, but was mainly advertised with the title song, sang by Sonu Nigam and Alisha Chinai.

Vidya was born in the Tamil-speaking Balan family on January 1, 1978 in Palghat, Kerala, India. Her family consists of her dad, P.R. Balan, who is the Vice-President of ETC Channel; mom - a home-maker, and an elder sister, Priya, who is married to Kedar. She also has an aunt by the name of Raji Raju. The Balan family re-located to live at Road No. 11, near Ambedkar Garden, Chembur, Bombay, when Vidya was very young. She studied in St. Anthony's Convent School, and thereafter in St. Xavier's College from where she obtained a degree in Sociology. She then went on to obtain a Masters degree in Sociology from Bombay University. She also studied and performed in Prithvi Theaters' workshops. She then went on to appear in several commercials directed by Pradeep Sarkar. She also appeared in three music videos for Pankaj Udhas, Euphoria, and Shubha Mudgal in supporting roles.
